How Tilehurst Roofing Was Born

Tilehurst Roofing started in 2000 with a single promise Greg Holloway made to a homeowner in Los Angeles who had been burned twice. The first roofer took a deposit and disappeared. The second patched the leak with caulk and a prayer. Three weeks later, water was dripping through the kitchen ceiling again. Greg stood in that kitchen, watching the homeowner hold a bucket under a stain the size of a dinner plate, and he realized the industry he worked in had a fundamental problem: nobody was accountable for the work after the check cleared.

He didn’t have a grand business plan. What he had was a conviction that roofing should be straightforward. You tell the customer what it costs before you start. You show up when you say you will. You do the job right the first time, and if something fails, you come back and make it right. That conviction grew from one crew in Los Angeles into a network of independently owned locations across California and beyond, each one held to the same standard: roofs done once, and done right. The name Tilehurst comes from an English village that starts with the tile, the oldest way to keep weather out of a home.

Greg Holloway’s Personal Connection to the Roofing Trade

Greg Holloway didn’t grow up dreaming about shingles. He fell into roofing the way a lot of people fall into the trades: he needed work, someone handed him a bundle of shingles, and he discovered he was good at it. The first roof he worked on was in the San Fernando Valley in August. The tar paper was so hot it left marks through his gloves. Sweat dripped off his nose onto the decking. The tradesman running the crew that day watched him work for an hour and said, “You’re slow, but you’re careful. Slow and careful is rare.” Greg never forgot that. Slow and careful became the foundation of how he builds roofs.

What kept him in the trade was the moment a roof comes together. There’s a point near the end of a job when the last ridge cap goes on, and the roofline turns clean and sharp against the sky. Greg has seen that moment on homes from Sacramento to San Diego, from Riverside to Oakland, and it still hasn’t gotten old. What gets him out of bed in the morning is knowing that a roof he worked on will keep a family dry in a storm ten years from now. That’s the personal part. A roof is not a transaction. It’s the thing standing between a family and the rain. If he weren’t doing this, he’d probably be building furniture, something else where you can step back at the end of the day and see exactly what your hands made.

After more than a decade of learning the trade, he started Tilehurst Roofing with the idea that homeowners deserved a roofer who acted like the work mattered. Ten plus years of experience taught him what goes wrong on roofs: sloppy flashing, shortcuts around chimneys, the wrong underlayment for the climate. He’s carried that lived experience into every location that works under our name. We fix the roof, but we also explain what we found in plain words, so the homeowner understands what they’re paying for and why.

Meet Greg Holloway - The Person Behind Every Job

Greg Holloway is the Owner and Founder of Tilehurst Roofing. He started in the field, learned the trade from the deck up, and built this company on the idea that a written price and a written guarantee should be standard, not special. He has spent his entire career in roofing, working through heat waves in Riverside, fog in San Francisco, and the steady rain that punishes roofs in the Pacific Northwest.

Greg still reviews jobs personally. When a homeowner calls with a question about an estimate or a repair, he wants the answer to be straightforward and honest. He’s a person who values craft over shortcuts and a clean job site over a fast exit. His commitment is simple: every homeowner who calls Tilehurst Roofing gets a straight answer, a fair price, and a roof that performs. If the work falls short, we come back and fix it. That is not a marketing phrase. It’s the way he’s run the company since day one.

Our Promise to Homeowners

Every Tilehurst Roofing location works to the same four promises, spelled out in the Kingswell Guarantee:

  • A written price before any work starts. No surprises at the door, no change orders that appear from nowhere.
  • A real arrival window. We tell you when we’ll be there, and we show up in that window.
  • A clean job site. Roofing creates debris. We treat it as our responsibility to leave the place cleaner than we found it.
  • A written guarantee on the work. If a repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge.

These aren’t marketing promises. They came out of the failure Greg Holloway saw in that Los Angeles kitchen back in 2000. He wrote them down before the company had a name. They’re still the standard today.

Our Credentials

Tilehurst Roofing holds itself to a straightforward standard:

  • State licensing. Every pro working under our name is required to hold the license their state requires. Licensing is not optional, and it’s verified before anyone touches a roof.
  • Insurance and bonding. We carry the coverage needed to protect homeowners and workers alike. If something goes wrong, you’re not left holding the bag.
  • Years of local experience. Greg Holloway has spent more than a decade in the roofing trade, and that experience is embedded in how every Tilehurst Roofing location operates.
  • A strong local reputation. Our locations have built trust the slow way, by showing up and doing the work, one roof at a time.

Here’s why these matter to a homeowner: when someone works on your roof, they’re entering the single most important protective layer of your home. Licensing means they’ve met a baseline of competence. Insurance and bonding mean you’re protected if something goes wrong. And a reputation built over years means the company has been accountable to your neighbors long before you ever called.

Rooted in the Communities We Serve

Tilehurst Roofing never pretends to be from every town. We’re a network of independently owned roofing companies anchored in the communities where we work. Our roots start in Los Angeles, where Greg Holloway built the first crew, and they stretch into the cities where our locations operate today: San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, Fresno, Sacramento, Long Beach, Oakland, Anaheim, Riverside, Irvine, and Miami. Each location is a local business that agreed to work to the Kingswell Guarantee. That’s the whole model: local accountability, held to a national standard. When you call us, a live coordinator connects you with the location that covers your address, so you’re always talking to the team that will actually do the work.
