Franchise FAQ
Tilehurst Roofing is the roofing company of the Kingswell family. Each location is independently owned and operated by people who believe roofs should be done once, and done right. Here’s what prospective owners ask us before they join.
Common Questions
Do I need roofing experience to open a Tilehurst Roofing location?
No. Most of our owners come from management, sales, or operations backgrounds, not from the trade itself. We teach you the business of roofing, the Kingswell Way, and how to hire and lead crews who know the craft. Greg Holloway, our founder, will tell you straight: understanding people and keeping your word matters more than knowing how to nail a shingle.
That said, you do need to respect the work. You’ll spend time on roofs during training so you can talk to customers and crews with credibility. We want owners who can explain why a valley needs ice-and-water shield, or why three-tab shingles won’t last on a steep pitch, even if they’re not the ones installing them.
What’s the total investment range to open a Tilehurst Roofing franchise?
Total initial investment typically runs between $185,000 and $385,000, depending on your market size, whether you lease or buy vehicles, and your initial marketing spend. That range covers the franchise fee, equipment, initial inventory, vehicles with proper signage, training, and working capital for your first several months.
We give you a written breakdown before you spend a dollar on due diligence. No hidden categories, no “miscellaneous” bucket that balloons later. You’ll see line-item costs for everything from ladder racks to your first radio buy.
Is financing available?
Yes. We have relationships with third-party lenders who understand the Kingswell model and have financed our owners before. Many candidates also use SBA-backed loans, home equity, or retirement-account rollovers through ROBS arrangements. We don’t finance in-house, and we won’t push you toward any particular path.
What we do is introduce you to lenders who’ve closed loans for our owners, then step back and let you choose. The financing needs to make sense for your situation, not ours.
What territory do I get, and is it exclusive?
You receive a protected territory defined by zip codes or county lines, depending on population density. We don’t stack locations on top of each other. Your territory is yours to develop, and we won’t sell another Tilehurst Roofing franchise inside it.
We size territories based on roofing demand, not just population. A territory in hail-prone North Texas might be smaller in square miles than one in coastal Oregon because the replacement cycle is shorter. We show you the data we used to draw the lines, and we explain our reasoning.
How long is the training program?
Initial training lasts four weeks. Two weeks at our headquarters working through operations, sales, the Kingswell Way, and our software systems. Two weeks in the field with an operating location, riding along on estimates, watching how crews handle a tear-off, seeing how a good foreman talks to a homeowner when he finds rotted decking.
After you open, we stay close. Your first ten estimates, we review with you. Your first three jobs, we check in daily. Training doesn’t end at four weeks; it tapers as you grow confident.
What ongoing fees and royalties do franchisees pay?
Franchisees pay a monthly royalty based on gross revenue, currently 6%, plus a marketing fund contribution of 2% that supports national brand development, digital assets, and cooperative advertising programs. There are no separate charges for software, for using our name, or for accessing our supplier pricing.
We don’t negotiate these figures down for anyone. They’re the same for the owner in their twentieth year as for you in your first. That consistency is part of how we protect the brand you invested in.
How long does it take to open my location?
Most owners open for business between four and six months from signing. The variables are financing timing, vehicle upfitting, and how quickly you can hire your first crew lead. We’ve seen it done in ninety days when financing was already arranged. We’ve seen it stretch to eight months when someone wanted to wait for the right foreman rather than settle.
We don’t rush you. Opening slow and ready beats opening fast and sorry.
What support do you provide after I’m open?
Operational support through a dedicated franchise business consultant who knows your market. Marketing support including consumer-facing websites, digital campaigns, and the creative assets that built our reputation. Purchasing support through negotiated pricing with GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, IKO, Atlas, Tamko, and Boral. Technical support when you encounter a roof you’ve never seen before. And peer support, because our owners talk to each other, share what works, and sometimes partner on jobs too big for one crew.
The Kingswell Guarantee is not a slogan we hand you. It’s a system we maintain together. When a repair fails, you don’t figure it out alone. You call, we troubleshoot, and if the crew needs to go back, they go back. That promise is only as strong as the network behind it.
What does the ideal Tilehurst Roofing owner look like?
Someone who’s been burned by a handshake deal and decided never to operate that way. Someone who answers their phone, keeps their window, and believes the price you give should be the price you charge. We don’t need the flashiest salesperson or the hardest driver. We need people who understand that a roof is a five-figure decision for a family, and that trust is built one written estimate at a time.
Our best owners are steady, not spectacular. They show up. They follow the system. They treat the guarantee as a bond, not a marketing line.
What’s my next step if I’m interested?
Call (945) 303-9821. A live person answers, twenty-four hours a day, including weekends. Tell them you’re interested in franchise ownership. They’ll connect you with our development team, and we’ll send you our Franchise Disclosure Document so you can review the actual numbers with your attorney and accountant.
There’s no fee to request the FDD, no deposit to hold a territory, no pressure to move before you’re ready. We answer your questions, we show you our numbers, and we let you decide if the Kingswell Way fits who you already are.
Still Have Questions?
Call (945) 303-9821 anytime, day or night. A live person will pick up, take your information, and make sure the right person calls you back. Or submit the form below and we’ll reach out within one business day. Either way, you’ll get straight answers, no runaround, and a written follow-up you can review with your family or your financial advisor.
